hi! i'm kalene.
founder, lmft
I specialize in helping people build more self-compassion, self-acceptance, and sense of empowerment.

I'm very attentive to what your brain and nervous system need in order to feel good, which is why I love to help people build connections in groups, and promote brain fitness through neurofeedback.
therapy with kalene
I work with people who find it easy to show compassion to others, but struggle to have self-compassion. They're often helpers, perfectionists, people-pleasers, empaths, highly sensitive people, and overthinkers.
We may be a good match if you...
Have a loud, harsh inner critic that sparks anxiety and shame
Feel like self-doubt and perfectionism prevent you from taking confident steps toward personal and professional goals
Struggle with burnout and compassion fatigue from always being the helper or compromiser
Frequently feel disappointed in yourself because you can't keep up with self-imposed high expectations

neurofeedback with kalene
I offer neurofeedback packages for adults looking for a powerful treatment or alternative/supplement to medication for:
Relieving symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, and other Mood Disorders
Recovery from trauma and symptoms of PTSD
Improving focus/attention and ability to manage hyperactivity associated with ADD/ADHD
Peak Performance for athletes, musicians, and performing artists
Improving brain function after experiencing traumatic brain injury (TBI)
how it works
Using cutting edge technology, neurofeedback uses electrode sensors on your scalp to read the brain's electrical activity, and display its activity on a TV screen. It's like a mirror for the brain. When the brain sees it's own activity, it starts to self-regulate.
Unlike medication where chemicals in the brain are altered, neurofeedback allows your brain to improve the timing and coordination of it's complex electrical activity. It's similar to how a dancer will improve their timing and coordination by practicing in front of a mirror.

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive treatment; there is no medication, no pain, and no electricity or signals sent into the brain from the electrode sensors. It can be life-changing for people who struggle with stubborn and/or intense symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADD/ADHD, and other mental health ailments. This treatment may be a good fit for you if:

-
Are looking for a noninvasive, medication-free treatment option for symptoms of mental health disorders
-
Want to try to decrease your need for medication, or find a complement to current medication
-
You have significant physical signs of stress, such as migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, sleep problems, or panic attacks.
-
Have been told that you have "medication-resistant" anxiety or depression

Often referred to as "brain training," neurofeedback acts as a personal fitness trainer for your brain. It strengthens your nervous system's ability to self-regulate, and reach feelings of calm and balance.
symptoms that can be targeted

when i'm not working
I'm a 3rd generation Filipino American born and raised in northern California. I dabble in all kinds of art (drawing, painting, sculpting, digital art, and beyond) and love getting out to the beach whenever I can. I'm a proud mother of a spunky 1st grader boy, a fashionista preschooler girl, and a feral cat.
my education and training
I've been in the mental health field since 2008, addressing trauma, anxiety, and depression through individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy.
I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and have been trained in ILF (Infralow Frequency) neurofeedback, or "Othmer Method" neurofeedback.
I have a background in using the following evidenced-based practices: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
